Movie: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 Synopsis: A radio host is victimized by the cannibal family as a former Texas Marshall hunts them. Release Date: August 22, 1986 MPAA Rating: R Writer: L.M. Kit Carson Director: Tobe Hooper Star Cast: Dennis Hopper Caroline Williams I first want to say there will be no comparing between the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the second. The second wasn’t aimed to be like the first but a more dark comedy. I got to meet Caroline Williams and Bill Johnson at the Cult Classic Convention. I must say Caroline Williams is just as awesome in person as she is in the movies. I also got to walk on the bridge where the two crazy teens got murdered by the family. If you ever get the chance go to Bastrop, Texas and go to the Cult Classic Convention and check out the sites. Now that that’s out of the way let’s dig in! My wife always says that this movie is weird but it’s a horror comedy which after you see the first one you may scratch your head a little. There’s still some gruesome parts but added on to that is some comedy like Leatherface falling in love with a radio DJ but none of it to me feels overly corny. I actually like how they humanize Leatherface and give him feelings instead of being this stone wall. Caroline Williams does an amazing job throughout the whole movie and is a great final girl. Chop Top fills in nicely and does add comedic relief. You also find out that Drayton Sawyer has gone from a small gas station bbq joint to a Texas vs OU chili cook off champ. Two years in a row as well! Everybody does a great job and mesh well together. Tobe Hooper is a genius and this movie adds to his legacy. To take such an iconic and gritty movie and make a sequel that’s funny but still has some grittiness. Everything flows together and there’s actually story and meaning to it. To bad after this one the sequels fall off in my opinion and I don’t think I’m the only one. Yes, there are some cheesy effects but let’s remember they didn’t have all the technology we have. For the most part it’s not terrible but it may not hold up well to our age of effects. When the teen driver gets the top of his head cut off it doesn’t look very realistic. If you don’t like horror comedy I still feel like this movie is a must see. It has a plot, great characters, and still some darkness to it. I give The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 a four out of five stars. If there is one thing to learn from this movie is don’t play chicken with a truck in Texas. It could be a cannibal family.
