One day the mother decides to go to Silent Hill without the fathers permission. After being chased by a cop and wrecking to avoid a person, she finds herself in Silent Hill but Sharon is missing. Will she find Sharon and what mystery does Silent Hill hold? A video game turned movie. Makes you cringe at first doesn’t it? Well I want to go ahead and get this out of the way. Silent Hill is one the best video game to movie adaptations ever made. Not to say it doesn’t have flaws but overall they did better than some of the others out there. I haven’t played all the Silent Hill games and it’s been a while since I played one. On this review though all I’m focusing on is the movie not the video games. The acting is ok in this movie. You got Sean Bean who played Boromir in The Lord of the Rings and Laurie Holden who played Andrea in The Walking Dead are two recognizable characters. There’s not really any great acting in this movie as even Sean Bean seems out of place. But hey if you have ever listened to the voice acting in the Silent Hill games it’s not really a surprise. (Well there I went talking about the game!) The studio didn’t go out and just get any random director. They went and got Christophe Gans who spent 5 years convincing Konami how much the game meant to him and why they should let him make it into a movie. The movie had great filming locations as it was beautiful when it needed to be beautiful and dreary when it needed to be dreary. The story telling in the movie is great as well and keeps you engaged the whole way through. The look of the monsters and the look of the sets look amazing. Every time I would hear the siren go off my body would tense wondering what scary monster waited on the other side. The special touch on the nurses was awesome as well as they used professional dancers that could make their body move in ways that seemed impossible. The music was also some of the original music from the game and it was very well done where it didn’t seem out of sync and was like they made the movie around the music. Overall a very well done movie that most may not watch because of the fear of being a bad video game to movie adaptation. I’m going to give this movie a 4 out of 5 stars and definitely think you need to go check it out!
