A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

Movie: A Nightmare on Elm Street Synopsis: The monstrous spirit of a slain janitor seeks revenge by invading the dreams of teenagers whose parents were responsible for his untimely death. Release Date: November 9, 1984 MPAA Rating: R Writer: Wes Craven Director: Wes Craven Star Cast: John Saxon Ronee Blakley Heather Langenkamp Amanda Wyss Nick Corri Johnny Depp Robert Englund The boogeyman is real. He comes into your dreams and turns them into nightmares. His name? Freddy Krueger. He’s burned from head to toe and a glove with sharp knives at the end. So whatever you do. Don’t. Fall. Asleep. The movie A Nightmare on Elm Street is about a man that was burned alive by a group of parents because he was murdering children. Well little did they know is he would come back and terrorize their children. In their dreams! Although I have watched this movie hundreds of times it still gives me the creeps. Robert Englund plays this villain to perfection and to me is one of the top horror villains of all time. His charisma and the scraping of the glove knives will send chills up your spine. Speaking of acting, I felt the acting was really great in this film. The victims felt actually scared and everybody fit their characters traits really well. On top of that it was Johnny Depp’s first movie and you can see why he went on to be such a huge actor. Got no complaints in the acting department. Wes Craven to me was a horror mastermind. Before this movie he had The Last House on the Left, The Hills Have Eyes, and Swamp Thing. After A Nightmare on Elm Street his career continued to take off. He was considered as one of the pioneers in horror films. This movie is no different as it’s like something that has never been done before. For 1984 the special effects and Freddy’s costume are amazing. Supposedly 500 gallons of fake blood was used during the movie. That’s a lot of fake blood! The sound effects especially the scraping of the knives will send chills up your spine. Overall this film is one to watch even if you’re not a die hard horror fan. I give this movie a five out of five stars! Go check it out! 1 2 Freddy’s coming for you. 3 4 and lock your door. 5 6 grab your crucifix. 7 8 gonna stay up late. 9 10 never sleep again.
